Charleston is a cultural centre which welcomes everyone to engage with the radical spirit of the Bloomsbury group and their attempts to live life differently: artistically, politically and socially. Alongside the house and garden, we run a year-round programme of exhibitions, performances, talks, fairs, workshops, and a portfolio of festivals including Charleston Festival, Small Wonder Festival and Festival of the Garden.
Applications are invited for a collaborative doctoral project between the Department of Art History, University of Sussex, and Charleston Trust, investigating a collection of 422 erotic drawings by Duncan Grant made during the 1940s and 1950s and depicting scenes of multiple sexual encounters between men, interracial couplings, love between men, women and mythic creatures.
Deadline for applications: 12 noon, Friday 7 May 2021.
