Charleston is a cultural centre which welcomes everyone to engage with the radical spirit of the Bloomsbury group and their attempts to live life differently: artistically, politically and socially. Alongside the house and garden, we run a year-round programme of exhibitions, performances, talks, fairs, workshops, and a portfolio of festivals including Charleston Festival, Small Wonder Festival and Festival of the Garden.

As we prepare to reopen Charleston in spring 2021, there are some exciting opportunities to be part of our dynamic organisation.

PhD Studentship

Private: Queer Relations and Politics in Duncan Grant’s Hidden Erotic Drawings

Applications are invited for a collaborative doctoral project between the Department of Art History, University of Sussex, and Charleston Trust, investigating a collection of 422 erotic drawings by Duncan Grant made during the 1940s and 1950s and depicting scenes of multiple sexual encounters between men, interracial couplings, love between men, women and mythic creatures.

Hospitality opportunities

Our new café partner, Caccia & Tails are seeking experienced, driven and passionate people to join their growing hospitality team. Serving up street pasta dishes, New York Italian classics and Focaccia Genovese, Caccia & Tails opens in our Threshing Barn this spring.

There are full and part time positions available at all levels, as well as seasonal opportunities. Training will be offered in all aspects of the job.
