The Charleston Monologue: Inua Ellams

Inua Ellams responds to the times in which we find ourselves in this new commission written in the weeks before the festival.

Author of the smash-hit play ‘Barber Shop Chronicles’ and founder of ‘The Rhythm and Poetry Party (aka The R.A.P Party)’ Inua Ellams is one of Britain’s leading playwrights and spoken word poets, and this year’s commissioned writer of ‘The Charleston Monologue’. Written in the weeks immediately before the festival, the only brief for the writer is to respond to the times in which we find ourselves.

Join us to witness the live premiere of his newly penned 30-minute monologue, which will be performed live by actor Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and directed by Daniel Bailey.

The performance will be followed by an interview and audience Q&A with Inua himself.

Please be aware that this event includes themes of mental health, fire, death and strong language.
