Distinguished actor, author and director, Simon Callow introduces and presents a dramatic reading of Oscar Wilde’s The Ballad of Reading Gaol, written in exile after serving a two-year prison sentence of hard labour for homosexual offences. Oscar Wilde was one of London’s most celebrated playwrights in the 1890s. Simon Callow is an Oscar Wilde devotee and has written the biography of the poet, essayist and writer of children’s stories.

Callow has previously performed an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s letter to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, written while incarcerated in Reading gaol, De Profundis.
