As a new exhibition arrives at Charleston showcasing the art and design of the Omega Workshops, our Reading Group will explore the ideas and influences, collaborations, commissions and conflicts that went on behind the (painted) scenes at 33 Fitzroy Square. Learn more about Roger Fry, as we read from his own books on art and aesthetics, his letters to the Group, and from Virginia Woolf’s affectionate biography of her friend. We will discover the role Omega played in developing the bonds and ambitions of the Bloomsbury Group, the partnership with the Ballets Russes, Vanessa’s directorship and design, and some of the key events and stories from the six years of the Workshops.
Join us around the Coco Table in the Threshing Barn for civilised Sunday mornings of readings and lively discussion. Held on the first Sunday of every month, we will explore themes inspired by Charleston, the Bloomsbury Group, modernism, and our current exhibitions. These are informal and relaxed sessions, open to all, with no need to read anything in advance. Simply come along, settle down with your tea or coffee, and immerse yourself in literature, thoughts and ideas with like-minded people in an inspiring space. Led by our Reader in Residence Holly Dawson, following the success of the Sunday reading and discussion groups held during our Orlando season.
