Poetry and Protest

Jackie Kay reflects on several decades of political activism and poetry alongside fellow poet Dean Atta

One of our best-loved writers and former Makar of Scotland Jackie Kay talks about her latest collection. ‘Mayday’ brings together poems that reflect on several decades of political activism, from formative political campaigning with her parents in the 1970s, through the feminist, LGBTQ+and anti-racist movements of the 1980s and 1990s, to now.

In conversation with fellow poet and children’s author Dean Atta, winner of the 2020 Stonewall Book Award for The Black Flamingo, Kay will discuss writing this collection of poems that is infused with love and celebration.
