Event Navigation

Since the times of Gertrude Jekyll and William Robinson, the charm and beauty of traditional Cottage Gardens has become loved throughout the world.

If you would like a garden brimming with all the old favourites, like lavender, roses and honeysuckle and buzzing with bees, join us for an inspirational day of planting design at Charleston.

Juliet Sargeant will explain the use and care of traditional plants, and introduce you to newer varieties that also give the cottage feeling.

We will look at classic planting combinations and learn how to stock a flower bed for a relaxed, but stunning summer display.

No design or gardening experience is necessary.

By the end of the day you will:

  • Have been inspired by the colour, scents and plants in the garden at Charleston
  • Know how to choose the right plants for your own Cottage Garden
  • Know how to combine the plants for the best visual effect and Cottage Garden atmosphere
