Martin Rees, our most distinguished cosmologist and astrophysicist, has always focused on life on earth as well as the distant galaxies. His provocative and inspiring new book, On The Future, discusses the many existential challenges that have emerged on earth as human beings have become as powerful as nature itself in shaping our destiny.
He has been Astronomer Royal since 1995 and was formerly President of the Royal Society and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. His 2003 book was called Our Final Century; does he still believe that we are in danger of fulfilling that prophecy? In conversation with Lewis Dartnell, Professor of science communication and author of Origins: How The Earth Made Us.
