Philip Hughes and Chris Drury discuss creating artwork inspired by land and ecology, central preoccupations of both artist’s work. This talk will take place in the South Gallery, surrounded by Hughes’ work. Hughes and Drury will also talk about their experience of Antarctica, where both have been artist in residence with the British Antarctic Survey.
Philip Hughes’ current exhibition Land runs in the South Gallery at Charleston. Hughes is a painter “with an obsession for seeing through the ordinary lineaments of landscape to its intimate and exquisite heart” (Daily Telegraph).
Chris Drury is a British environmental artist. His body of work includes ephemeral assemblies of natural materials, as well as more permanent landscape art, works on paper and indoor installations. He also works in 3D sculpture.
