Bodies and Freedom

Writers Olivia Laing and Christopher Turner, and psychoanalyst Juliet Mitchell explore bodily freedom

Visionary psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich influenced a generation with his ideas about bodily trauma, sexual liberation and anti-fascist action. Discredited in the 1950s because of his pseudoscientific theory of orgone energy, he died in prison. Today, struggles for bodily freedom are once again dominating the agenda.

Acclaimed writer and cultural critic Olivia Laing is joined by ground-breaking feminist psychoanalyst Juliet Mitchell and author of ‘Adventures in the Orgasmatron’, Christopher Turner. They explore what can be learned from Reich’s life and legacy and the body’s potential as a site of protest.
