Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate, and Hazel Reeves, award-winning figurative sculptor, discuss the interaction between popular culture and protest and the impact on creativity. Prior to her role at Tate, Maria Balshaw was Director of the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester, which was awarded Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2015 following a major transformation.

Hazel Reeves’ bronze statue of the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst was unveiled in Manchester in December last year, a century after the first woman voted in a general election.
