Charleston is a charity and was the home of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. In the 20th century, their home was also a gathering point for some of the most radical artists, writers and thinkers known collectively as the Bloomsbury group

Today the house gives visitors a unique opportunity to discover what Charleston would have looked like in the 1950s. You can also explore the garden, join us for our year-round programme of events and festivals, and enjoy a host of different exhibitions every year in our galleries at both our sites in Firle and Lewes.

We receive no regular government or public funding and so we are dependent on the support provided by individuals and grants to fund all the areas of our work, from conservation and maintenance of the house and collection, to new acquisitions, education, research, maintaining our garden and staging events and festivals.

Our subscription levels start from £50 a year and include a variety of benefits such as free entry to our house and galleries. Take a look below to see which level suits you best.
