This exhibition showcases work made by pupils from Priory School’s Oak Centre

This exhibition showcases work made by pupils from Priory School’s Oak Centre (better known as the Oakies), concluding a series of school workshops led by artist educator Tanvi Kant.

Taking place both here at Charleston in Lewes and at the school, the Oakies and school staff worked with Tanvi to create responses to our previous exhibition ‘Jonathan Baldock: through the joy of the senses’, using a range of sculptural and textile-based processes. From developing the project brief and artist selection through to curating and naming the exhibition, this project has been co-produced with Oak staff and pupils.

Prior to opening this space in September 2023, Charleston facilitated a range of consultation sessions with local state-maintained schools and colleges to build a collaborative learning programme. Charleston will continue to support and platform the invaluable work of local teachers and artist educators through our community engagement programme, and provide children and young people with a range of much-needed opportunities to engage with culture through our exhibitions and artist-led workshops.
