Naked Realism:Walter Sickert’s Camden Town Nudes

Tuesday 22 April
7pm • Tickets £14 include the talk, a glass of wine and a private evening visit to the house.

with Dr. Barnaby Wright Curator of Paintings at The Courtauld Gallery

An illustrated talk by Dr. Barnaby Wright will explore this extraordinary series of radical paintings, produced between 1905 and 1913 in Camden Town which confirmed Sickert’s reputation as one of the most important modern British artists of the twentieth century. In these uncompromising and powerful nudes Sickert challenged conventions of the genre and addressed pressing artistic and social issues of the time.

Dr.Wright curated the recent major Sickert exhibition of these paintings providing the first account of the artist’s reinvention of the nude as a subject for modern painting.
