INTRODUCTION

Welcome to our new and exciting programme of events inspired by Charleston's theme for 2009, Bloomsbury decoration. We have expanded our popular series of talks at Charleston and highlights this year include an event with Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener at Great Dixter, and a talk by author Judith Mackrell at Tilton House about the relationship between Maynard Keynes and Lydia Lopokova. We also have even more events for children this year, including an Easter Trail, a family day in association with the Sussex Wildlife Trust and our ever-popular Children's Summer School. Creativity has always been at the heart of Charleston and so this year we have responded to demand by expanding our programme of creative workshops, giving you the opportunity to try your hand at making rag rugs, painted screens or baskets, as well as to work on print-making with artist Tom Hammick or lampshade design with Cressida Bell.

The programme also contains popular events like the In the Footsteps of Virginia Woolf walk, A Gay Outing,The Quentin Follies and our two festivals. We will also be holding a very special AGM, which will celebrate Angelica Garnett in her 90th year; Angelica will be coming to Charleston for this event which looks certain to be one of the high points of the year. And, of course, there are some exciting visits to look forward to; a rare opportunity to look at paintings in the collection of Kings College Cambridge, combined with a private visit to Kettle's Yard, and the chance to visit 33 Fitzroy Square, the site of the Omega Workshops, followed by a walking tour of Bloomsbury. There will also be a special private view of the Courtauld Institute's Beyond Bloomsbury exhibition. We look forward to seeing you during 2009!
