Graphic novels resemble short stories in that each episode is rendered in a condensed form that packs a great deal of meaning. Bryan and Mary Talbot’s work has elevated the graphic novel into a new literary dimension. Their first collaboration, Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes, about the life of James Joyce (exemplary short story writer) from the perspective of his daughter Lucia, was the first graphic novel to win the Costa Biography Award. Their new book, Sally Heathcote Suffragette, is a gripping, inside story of the campaign for votes for women. They will give an illustrated talk on their work and an art form in the ascendance.
