The Annual Fund
The Annual Fund has been established for those who would like to do more to help the Charleston Trust in our task of safe-keeping the house and preserving the legacy and spirit of the Bloomsbury circle.
Each year the appeal will raise funds for a critical part of Charleston’s work, be it the conservation of the house, garden or collection or making possible research into the collection, themed tours, access, education and outreach programme.
As an independent charitable trust Charleston receives no statutory funding and its existence is every bit as fragile as the house itself – thus the impact of your gift to Charleston’s Annual Fund will be as evident and as important as the paintings on our walls.
The 2008 Annual Fund: Restoring the Charleston Garden
The 2008 Annual Appeal was launched in October 2007 and all donations this year will fund the restoration of the Charleston Garden, originally created by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant to designs by Roger Fry.
The garden at Charleston has matured successfully since its original restoration in the 1980s under Sir Peter Shepheard, but, after 20 years, it is now in urgent need of a complete overhaul, which we plan to complete within the next two years.
Mark Divall, the Gardener at Charleston, works tirelessly throughout the year, with just the support of volunteers, to maintain the garden and grounds at Charleston and to bring the garden closer to its original appearance according to archive records, paintings and photographs. The cost of restoring the garden at Charleston costs in the region of £25,000 each year.
Even a small donation makes an important impact at Charleston. As an independent charity, every penny matters to The Charleston Trust and we can ensure that your entire donation goes directly towards its intended aims.
The form below asks for your details and can be printed out and posted to Charleston. Alternatively, to make a donation by phone, call Sarah Bayes on 01323 815141 or you can email her at s.bayes@charleston.org.uk.
