"The best literary festival I have ever attended."
William Trevor Sept 2006
Are short stories what novelists knock off when they are feeling lazy, or are they the jewels of fiction: dazzling, flawless gems, with no superfluous bling? Make up your own mind in the club-like atmosphere of the Charleston barns, where you can pick and mix between poignant, fantastical, surreal, humorous, experimental, prize-winning, classical and contemporary short fiction, as well as between various ways of setting words in motion: traditional readings, tutorials, illustrated talks, digital demonstrations, films, dramatisations, re-interpretations and a chance to participate in the Small Wonder Slam.
Now in its fifth year Small Wonder has gone from strength to strength. We have the welcome return of William Trevor, the master of the short story who described Small Wonder as ‘the best literary festival I have ever attended,’ and Ali Smith, who appeared in our inaugural year.
