Throughout 2007 a variety of events
inspired by Iceland Poppies served to
explore the different responses to the
painting. A hands-on family workshop, inspired by Bell’s love of flowers gave all ages the chance to recreate the magic of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant’s Omega Flowers. Later in the programme, Simon Martin, Assistant Curator of Pallant House, offered a unique academic perspective with his lecture “Before Post-Impressionism: Vanessa Bell’s Iceland Poppies”. The painting also provided inspiration for Charleston’s annual event celebrating its gay heritage - A Gay Outing - with art historian Simon Watney and screenwriter Derek Granger.
