Roads to France
Matthew Hollis with Marcel Theroux
7.30pm Tickets £13
Matthew Hollis’ bravura Costa-winning biography of Edward Thomas, one of our most beguiling and influential poets (‘He is the father of us all’, Ted Hughes), concentrates on the last period of his short life, leading up to his death at Arras. In just 4 years, he translated himself from self-loathing literary hack to accomplished poet, stimulated by his life-changing creative friendship with visiting American poet, Robert Frost. Now All Roads Lead to France brilliantly evokes the pre WW1 literary comradeship and combat which revolved around the Poetry Bookshop in Bloomsbury. Matthew Hollis is an award winning poet. Chaired by Marcel Theroux, novelist and broadcaster.
